GD Executive Secretary: EU has enough grounds to grant Georgia candidate status
The European Union has enough grounds to grant Georgia candidate status, said Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.
“It will depend on a political decision to be made. If anyone wants to punish the country only because it does not join sanctions, cares about its citizens, refuses to engage in war and thinks about the physical rescuing people and national interests, they can do so, but it will be hard to make such a move,” he said.
Mamuka Mdinaradze claimed that he was still optimistic, bearing in mind that a CIS country was given the chance last year.
“Georgia deserves this chance the most. Therefore, Georgia should not be punished for thinking about its own country and people. If there is an objective decision, we will get the candidate status,” said Mdinaradze.
