The political party Gakharia for Georgia has issued a statement addressing the recent incident in Batumi, claiming that the Prosecutor’s Office, with the cooperation of Sheraton Batumi, has effectively seized the security camera recordings.
“We hope that the Prosecutor’s Office has preserved the recordings in their entirety and that they will be reviewed and made available to the public,” the statement asserts.
According to the announcement, a representative for Giorgi Gakharia will review the case materials today.
“As you may know, significant evidence related to the attack on Giorgi Gakharia has been compromised due to police inaction and the active involvement of Sheraton Batumi. We remain hopeful that the crucial evidence—the security camera recordings—has been fully preserved by the Prosecutor’s Office and that these recordings will be thoroughly reviewed and disclosed in their complete form,” the statement further emphasizes.
For context, Giorgi Gakharia, the leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, was questioned at the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office on January 22.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs initiated an investigation on January 15 under Article 126 of the Criminal Code concerning the incident at Sheraton Batumi, which involves allegations of violence.
