Gakharia-For Georgia member: President proposes resolution to political crisis
“President Zourabichvili has proposed a peaceful solution to the ongoing political crisis by suggesting new elections to Bidzina Ivanishvili,” stated Teona Akubardia, a member of the Gakharia-For Georgia party.
According to Akubardia, Ivanishvili is unlikely to agree to new elections, as “money and power matter more to him than the future of the country.”
“The elections held on October 26 were marred by systemic violations, as alleged by the president, four opposition political unions, and our supporters and voters who witnessed these infractions. Our Western partners concur that the elections were conducted with gross violations and are discussing the possibility of dispatching a technical mission to investigate these irregularities—something that the Georgian Dream opposes, as they are aware of the crimes committed against the country.
The president has proposed a peaceful way out of the political crisis through new elections. It would not be surprising if Ivanishvili rejects this idea, as he has openly stated that money and power are his top priorities rather than the nation’s interests.
The future of our country now depends on us as we navigate the struggle to restore our constitutional framework lawfully and peacefully,” she added.
On November 18, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili suggested maintaining the political configuration as it was before October 26, keeping the existing parliament, government, and president in place to ensure a stable transition period to new elections.
