Guilty verdict ruled into case of seven people charged for inhuman treatment of prisoners
The court ruled a guilty verdict into case of seven former officials of Gldani Prison today charged for inhuman treatment of inmates. They are already transferred to the so-called Matrosov Prison. Evidences of tens of prisoners are compiled to the case materials. Victims told about physical torture taking place in 2010-2012. Probing into case began in 2013.
Former head of the Legal Regime Department of the Penitentiary Department, Oleg Patsatsia, has been sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in jail for degrading and inhuman treatment of prisoners.
Some other persons were also found guilty in the same case. Malkhaz Ghviniashvili, former employee of Penitentiary Establishment No. 8, was sentenced to six years and 9 months in jail, while other defendants: Nugzar Marghia, Zaza Kharaishvili, Vakhtang Gugushidze, Davit Chikhladze and Davit Nozadze were sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in jail.
The judge said she took into account the health condition of Malkhaz Ghviniashvili. As for other defendants, Judge Liana Orkodashvili said they were sentenced to minimum sentence – 4 years, and as a result of amnesty, the term will be reduced to 3 years and 3 months.
