Foreign Ministry – Russia uses Open Skies Agreement as tool for recognition of occupied regions
Russia uses Open Skies Agreement as the tool for illegal recognition of Georgia’s occupied territories, the Georgian delegation stated during the meeting of 2019 observation commission meeting on October 22 in Vienna in response to the allegations made by the Russian side.
According to the statement, Russia made the situation graver by making a decision to restore observer flights within a 10-kilometer radius near the so-called borders with occupied Abkhazia and Ossetia.
“The country, which openly violates fundamental norms of the international law must not be given the possibility to use the agreement for the legalization of illegal activities,” reads the statement.
