Giorgi Gakharia, leader of the For Georgia party said the party would join people’s but not parties’ protest, responding to the question on joining the announced permanent protests of opposition parties.
“We will join the people’s protest but not the party protest. We will organize a party protest if we decide, organizing a rally is not a problem,” he said.
According to Giorgi Gakharia, it is not time for despair but high time to protect each citizen’s vote by all means. In his words, everybody should apply the form of a protest that will defend the citizens’ choice, the European future and the elections.
“Today we fight everywhere for the protection of citizens’ will with international partners by lawful means to confirm our citizens’ choice objectively. The election outcomes do not reflect the will of the Georgian people. We have observed facts of intimidation, bribing, and manipulation with ID cards against public officials, we have seen pressure on socially vulnerable people, their menacing to steal the election outcomes and Georgian people’s choice.
I want to tell Georgian citizens today, that it is not time for despair but the high time to protect each citizen’s vote by all means. We closely cooperate with both local and international observation missions, and we will provide them with the information that our representatives collected at different polling stations. We will submit this material to the investigation bodies.
First, together and with the involvement of politicians, should fight for the protection of the right of citizens’ free choice. Second, we should protect elections as a democratic institute as the means to change the government peacefully, Third, rescuing election outcomes is directly linked to rescuing our country’s European future.
Again, I reiterate that it is not time to fall into despair. We should work 24 hours and despite everything that the Georgian Dream did in the last months and especially yesterday, they have never been so weak as today. We should all apply to the rational form of protest, which will aim to the protection of people’s choice European future and the elections as an institution,” stated Gakharia.
