FM says PM to address COP29

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is set to address the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.

According to Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, the Prime Minister will discuss the steps Georgia plans to take in collaboration with the international community to mitigate the challenges and risks posed by climate change and global warming.

During the conference, the Prime Minister will engage with world leaders and participate in group discussions. As part of his visit to Azerbaijan, Irakli Kobakhidze will meet with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

“Azerbaijan is our special strategic partner. We implement significant joint projects and collaborate in many areas, and I am confident this meeting will further enhance our bilateral strategic cooperation,” stated Ilia Darchiashvili.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that renewable energy is a top priority for the Georgian government.

“We aim for the country to leverage all available resources. Our region plays a unique role, and together with our Azerbaijani partners, we are working on significant projects such as the Black Sea Submarine Electric Cable, which will enhance the diversification of energy supply to Europe. This project will strengthen Georgia’s position in European energy security,” Darchiashvili added.
