Ex-president Saakashvili urges UNM to redistribute quotas to other parties
Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia’s imprisoned former President, has announced his support for President Salome Zourabichvili’s charter.
Speaking remotely via a video link during his trial, Saakashvili confirmed that the United National Movement (UNM) would sign the charter within the next few hours, highlighting his endorsement of this decision.
“I fully support the spirit of this charter. It is crucial for as many political forces as possible to join,” Saakashvili stated.
He emphasized the necessity of coordinating efforts behind a single presidential candidate and forming the most unified electoral lists.
“There is no alternative. We all should understand this,” he added.
Saakashvili also stressed the importance of political unity, urging the UNM to share electoral quotas with other parties.
“I call on the United National Movement to assess the ratings of each party. We are ready to allocate half of our quotas to other parties. A complete redistribution won’t work because there must be a voter’s representative. Unity has no alternative in this situation,” Saakashvili declared.
