Jailed ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili on Monday said, under current conditions, his recovery was “impossible.” The ex-President went on to say “When I arrived in Georgia, I understood that I was putting my life at risk.”
“The conclusion of the Council of the Public Defender has been published. Previously, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment virtually ruled that under the conditions I am in, recovery is impossible; nonetheless, the major issue is not my health state. When I arrived in Georgia, I understood that I was putting my life at risk.
The fundamental issue is the injustice that is being done to me and many other individuals. Most of all, I do not want people to tolerate this injustice. What I don’t get is when people say, “He was the president, and he would have probably done something wrong.” I have not done anything that I am accused of. I rely on the majority of our people’s feelings and, more broadly, historical justice,” Saakashvili stated.
