European Integration Committee Chair Maka Botchorishvili and first deputy Levan Karumidze took part in the 19th parliamentary conference of EU candidate countries in Podgorica, Montenegro.

The participants reviewed the EU enlargement, opening negotiations on membership, the impact of the geopolitical situation on enlargement, and the relations of candidate countries with the EU.

Maka Botchorishvili spoke about Georgia’s progress, the significance of opening negotiations on accession and the enhancement of cooperation among the candidate countries.

Representatives of the Western Balkan countries stressed the significance of the first inter-parliamentary conference, which was held in Georgia in February and laid the foundation for a new format of consultations among the candidate countries.

The COSAP parliamentary conference, as a platform for Western Balkan countries, has been held since 2005. Montenegro, as its chairman country, first invited delegations from Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova to participate in this format.
