European Integration Committee Chair says Georgian opposition, Ukrainian delegation blocked European perspective resolution for Georgia at Euronest PA

Maka Botchorishvili, the Chairperson of the Georgian Parliamentary European Integration Committee, stated that the resolution on the European Perspective of Georgia and Ukraine failed to be initiated at the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly because of the opposition representatives from Georgia and the members of the Ukrainian delegation refusing to support it.

According to Maka Botchorishvili, the delegation comprised opposition MPs Giorgi Vashadze, Giorgi Botkoveli, Ani Tsitlidze, and Tamar Kordzaia.

“The Georgia Dream (GD) took the initiative to adopt a resolution on the European perspective of Georgia and Ukraine, which would support the accession of Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova to the EU. The Moldovan delegation supported the resolution, but the Ukrainian politicians and Georgian opposition refused to sign it, preventing the process from moving forward.

Georgian opposition MPs have no genuine interest in Georgia having support on international platforms, Georgia’s EU integration. When allowed to use any platform or format, they are always ready to use them to harm Georgia’s interests,” she said.

Maka Botchorishvili went on to say that initiation of the resolution requires 10 signatures. The GD has  5 MPs in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, while the opposition is represented by Giorgi Vashadze, Giorgi Botkoveli, Ani Tsitlidze and Tamar Kordzaia.

Chairperson of the Georgian Parliamentary European Integration Committee remarked that the GD members have urged the opposition to sign the resolution text several times, but they “showed no interest to be its co-sponsors.”

“During these final meetings of this convocation parliament, we were able to demonstrate that our interests were protected through cooperation between the European and Georgian Parliaments,” she said.
