The European Union’s foreign policy chief has stressed that the Iran nuclear deal was a ‘major achievement of European and international multilateral diplomacy that is delivering’.

Speaking at a conference in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, EU’s foreign policy Federica Mogherini has stated that the deal “will continue to be fully implemented by all, in all its parts”, the European Union’s foreign policy chief said on Friday, Sputnik reports.

The statement echoes her previous stance, urging all sides to abide by the agreement. Most recently, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, has stated that Tehran will not leave the nuclear agreement first, but is preparing itself for every scenario.

Mogherini’s statement comes following US President Donald Trump’s decision not to certify Iran’s compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal — also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — which has prompted criticism from the EU, Tehran and all other members of the P5+1 group, namely Russia, Britain, France, China and Germany, that have confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with the agreement.

Washington’s move was followed by the US House of Representatives overwhelming approval of a new package of sanctions aimed at Iran’s ballistic missile program on October 26, advancing the legislation to the US Senate.

While US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that Washington aims to fully enforce the agreement as it is and “then begin the process of addressing the flaws,” emphasizing that the agreement is in the best interest of the United States, Trump’s statements have been hinting at the possibility of US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, prompting Tehran’s harsh criticism.
