EU reaches agreement on regulation of artificial intelligence

The European Union has reached an agreement on the regulation of artificial intelligence, Reuters reported.

After 36 hours of negotiations, MEPs, representatives of EU member states and experts from the European Commission reached a political agreement on the regulation of artificial intelligence.

“Europe is becoming the first continent to establish clear rules for the use of artificial intelligence. Europe understands the importance of its role in setting global standards. Yes, I believe this is a historic day,” said European Commissioner Thierry Breton.

The agreement reached governs facial recognition using artificial intelligence, its use by law enforcement agencies, and artificial intelligence systems such as ChatGPT.
