EU Integration Committee Chair states suspension of financing for any project should not lead to its collapse or halt
“Lugar Laboratory’s operations are not under threat, as stated by the Health Minister. Moreover, the suspension of funding for any project will not lead to a collapse or halt in any sector,” said Maka Botchorishvili, Chair of the parliamentary European Integration Committee.
According to Botchorishvili, Georgia has sufficient financial resources to implement all projects that are in the country’s interests.
“Similar principles or attitudes from our partners are upsetting when the grounds for taking such decisions are not understandable,” she said.
According to media reports, funding to the Lugar laboratory from the USA has been terminated. GPB First Channel asked the US Embassy in Georgia for details, which provided a vague written response, indicating a cessation of $95 million in funding to Georgia. However, the embassy did not specify whether any portion of this allocation was intended for the Lugar laboratory.
