EU Integration Committee Chair calls Kallas’s statements 'unserious': certain individuals attempt to assist radical opposition
“Kaja Kallas’s statements are unserious. What’s clear is that certain individuals have specific interests regarding Georgia, attempting to create an alternative agenda and assist the radical opposition in furthering their radical actions,” said Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the European Integration Committee.
Makhashvili responded to Kallas’s remarks in which she said: “We are very concerned about the detentions, I mean the arrests of the people. We have been putting pressure also on the people who are actually conducting the violence against the peaceful protestors.”
“All of this is, at best, unserious. The statement she made at the doorstep of the Foreign Affairs Council, for the first time in recent years, focuses on issues that are actually the European Union’s concerns—crises, wars, and political tensions both within and outside the EU. Georgia is not logically part of this agenda, because it has never been and will not be the primary focus of the European Union.
Georgia has always been and will continue to be a reliable partner of the West in the region. Kaja Kallas’s statements are unserious. What’s clear is that certain individuals have specific interests regarding Georgia, attempting to create an alternative agenda and assist the radical opposition in furthering their radical actions. We are merely observing this, as nothing else of significance is coming from her or her colleagues,” said Levan Makhashvili.
