EU Ambassador meets family members of those detained during protests
EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński met with family members of those detained during the protests.
After the meeting, they stated that they had provided the ambassador with information about the circumstances under which their family members were detained. They said that law enforcement officers used violence during the detention.
Some of them also called on the ambassador to expand sanctions. They claimed that Herczynski promised to help, however it is unclear exactly what would be done.
According to Zurab Tsetskhladze, the father of the detainee Zviad Tsetskhladze, the EU ambassador spoke about the ongoing processes in the country.
“My personal request was that the EU use the strictest possible levers, to sanction all those involved in this process.
We asked them to react as swiftly and strictly as possible so that the current government realises that the country’s processes cannot go on in this manner and forces a state to free the illegally captured hostages and hold fresh elections that will bring about peace in the nation,” Zurab Tsetskhladze stated.
