EU Ambassador: Extremely important that upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia are free and fair

“It is extremely important that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia are free and fair,” the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, stated at the office of the International Society for Fair Elections And Democracy (ISFED), where he met the ISFED Executive Director, Nino Dolidze, and the organization’s employees.

Herczynski emphasized the importance of conducting the elections in a competitive, transparent, and inclusive manner, highlighting the need to avoid violence.

“It is extremely important that the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia are free and fair, that they are competitive, transparent, inclusive, and first and foremost, that there is no violence. Violence should be avoided at all costs, and I would call on all political parties, and especially, the government, to ensure that there is no violence and that the elections are conducted according to the highest international standards.

As the European Union, we have been supporting civil society organizations especially those involved in local observation, to ensure that elections are conducted up to the highest standards.

We are proud to support ISFED and other local organizations. We hope that after October 26, we will have a new government, and whoever will win the elections, this new government will restart the reforms needed for Georgia to advance on the EU pass,” the Ambassador concluded.
