Environment Protection Ministry applies to population in connection with Palm Sunday
The Ministry of Environment and Agriculture addresses the population in connection with Palm Sunday.
According to the Ministry, procuring Colchis palm trees across the territory is a difficulty since Cylindrocladium Buxicola has been destroying them in recent years.
The National Forestry Agency is trying to save the palm trees with biological chemicals in Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions.
The Ministry makes control of cutting down of palm trees stricter in connection with the religious feast and says that the activity is punished by the law. The sanction envisages a fine from 500 to 1000 GEL.
If the damage inflicted to the environment exceeds 1 thousand GEL, a criminal case will be opened. Obtaining of palm trees is possible only from artificial plantations.
