Elisabeth Rood: When preparing report, US Department of State utilizes all available sources
Acting US Ambassador to Georgia Elisabeth Rood stated that the report of US Department of State is based on all sources that are available and opinions of all sides are taken into consideration.
“The State Department annually prepares a report on human rights situation in different countries. The report evaluates the general situation and says that it is good in Georgia, but there are some specific problems in terms of media pluralism. The report notes that three media companies have merged and the change in leadership of the Public Broadcaster could cause decrease in pluralism of media environment.
In addition, the report mentions the disappearance of Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli and it appeals to investigate the issue in order to establish the truth. Naturally, the report speaks about the human rights situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
