The working group over the Electoral Reform will hold the next meeting on Monday, May 17, said Shalva Papuashvili, MP of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party.
According to Papuashvili, an agreement is almost reached. Some technical issues remain to be finalized. The issues include Central Election Commission (CEC) staffing. A model for the selection of CEC chairperson is likely to be agreed at the next meeting.
“It is important that the third meeting, which political parties hold without mediation, is constructive and prolific. I am sure we will agree over the key issues,” Papuashvili said.
The second between the majority and the parliamentary opposition over the electoral reform was held in the parliament on May 14. The working group met for the first time in Kachreti, Kakheti region.
