Georgian Minister of Education and Science, Giorgi Amilakhvari has quit his post.
At the briefing, Giorgi Amilakhvari announced that he planned to return to the private sector to continue his activities.
Amilakhvari said that he joined the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party team in 2020 and has since served Georgia, in the rank of the parliamentary education committee chair and then the Minister.
Amilakhvari remarked that before entering politics, he had successfully worked in business, namely education business. He stated that he made his decision with the ruling team and received approval.
Amilakhvari thanked the ruling team for their trust. “I quit the post ahead of elections to allow the new minister to enter the ministry and lead it before the elections,” he said.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze thanked Giorgi Amilakhvari for “prolific work.”
“During his tenure as the minister, the ministry made many important changes. His resignation is a significant loss for the Georgian government and the ruling team.
His decision is regrettable, but of course, we respect his choice. I wish Giorgi Amilakhvar success in the private sector, where he worked very successfully before starting his political activities,” the PM said.
Giorgi Amilakhvari was appointed as the Minister of Education and Science in March of 2023. Prior he served as Chair of the Parliamentary Education and Science Committee.
