Economy Minister meets Uzbek Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection
The First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, met with the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, Aziz Abduhakimov, during the United Nations World Tourism Day event.
The ministers discussed priority areas for trade and economic cooperation, with a special focus on deepening tourism collaboration. Uzbekistan was highlighted as an emerging tourist market for Georgia, contributing positively to the flow of tourists between the two countries.
In 2023, Uzbekistan ranked 14th in terms of foreign visitors to Georgia, and this upward trend continued in 2024, with a 27% increase in visitors from Uzbekistan in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.
Additionally, the parties explored expanding cooperation in sectors such as transport, logistics, trade, port infrastructure, processing industry, and textiles. Both sides acknowledged the significant progress in bilateral relations in recent years, which has set a positive foundation for further collaboration.
Following the meeting, a cooperation program was signed between the tourism agencies of Georgia and Uzbekistan, covering the years 2024-2026. The program includes sharing best practices in tourism, exchanging information on upcoming events, and fostering closer ties between the tourism sectors of both countries.
