Deputy Defence Minister participates in South-Eastern Europe Defence ministerial meeting
Georgian Deputy Defence Minister Paata Patiashvili participated in the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) meeting held in Tirana, Albania.
According to the Ministry of Defence, a joint statement was signed during the ministerial meeting, which, among other important topics, specifically highlighted support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The statement also condemned the Russian Federation’s ongoing occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region.
The ministerial meeting aims to consolidate cooperation between regional countries, promote security and peace in the region, and support the integration of regional countries into Euro-Atlantic structures.
The SEDM defence ministers’ meeting is held annually. The South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial was established in September 1996 in Tirana, Albania. It brings together 16 member countries: Georgia, USA, Italy, Turkey, Albania, Romania, Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Greece, Montenegro, and North Macedonia.
