Georgian Defense Minister Irakli Gharibashvili talked about Russian occupation during his speech delivered in the parliament within “Minister’s Hour” format and said that occupation remained the main challenge for the country.
Gharibashvili said that the government inherited difficult security environment from the previous authorities and Georgia had to cope with so-called ‘borderization’ on a daily basis.
“Georgia has vital importance for the world democratic access to the Caucasus region. Direct and indirect security threats are outlined and effective security capabilities have special importance for their prevention. The formed limited zones in the Black Sea and Caucasus region dislocated by Russian modern air, marine and land components make western military-political access to the region more difficult,” Gharibashvili said.
Defense Minister also claimed that military bases located across Georgia’s occupied regions violated the balance of forces and posed a threat for the regional security.
