Defense Minister: Government aims to build strong state together with Abkhazian brothers
“Zhiuli Shartava is the symbol of the motherland’s unity and fight for freedom,” said Georgian Defence Minister, Irakli Chikovani on the occasion of the National Hero’s birth date.
According to Irakli Chikovani, Zhiuli Shartava always sought the restoration of trust between Georgians and Abkhazians and sacrificed his life for the protection of his country and people.
“Our motherland will reunite. The government’s main aim is to build a strong state. The resilience of our heroes, among them Zhiuli Shartava, reminds us of this goal every day,” he said.
Zhiuli Shartava was a Georgian politician who served as the Government Head of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia and was killed by Abkhaz militants in 1993. Shartava was awarded the title of the National Hero of Georgia in 2004.
