Defence Ministry: Soldiers aid in disaster zone, provide food and medicine

The military personnel of the Georgian Defence Forces have been actively involved in addressing the challenges caused by heavy snowfall in western Georgia and assisting the affected population for the third consecutive day, the Ministry of Defence reported.

The Ministry stated that Defence Forces representatives, alongside firefighters from the Emergency Situations Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, are working at all critical sites based on directives from the Coordination Headquarters.

“The military personnel are collaborating with ENERGO-PRO Georgia to identify damage in various areas and quickly restore electricity. In coordination with the headquarters, soldiers are providing timely assistance to the population, including food and medicine if necessary.”

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Irakli Chikovani, along with Commander of the Defence Forces Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, are currently in the Guria region, where they are participating in the work of the coordination headquarters set up by the Prime Minister,” the Ministry of Defence stated.
