The death toll in the landslide-hit Shovi resort, where rescue efforts are going on for three days, rose to 16, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) confirmed.
Temur Mghebrishvili, Head of the Emergency Situations Management Service said that firefighters-rescuers, police units, special equipment, border police helicopters and a team of cynologists were involved in the rescue efforts.
He said that dead bodies discovered on Saturday were found on the territory of cottages. Seven people were identified.
Mghebrishvili called on everyone who had information about the missing persons to dial “112.” “Any information will be verified,” he said.
The death toll in the landslide-hit Shovi resort rose from 11 to 16 on August 5. Twenty people remain missing, while 210 were safely moved from the disaster zone. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili declared Monday, August 7, a Day of Mourning.
