De facto foreign minister - Irakli Kvaratskhelia’s body will be handed over to relatives today

Daur Kove, de facto Minister for Foreign Affairs of occupied Abkhazia region claims that the dead body of Irakli Kvaratskhelia (Georgian citizen who died in Gali region) will be handed over to the relatives later today.

Kove told First Channel that suicide served as the reason for the Georgian citizen’s death. He said that the man was crossing the so-called border illegally and was detained. “He committed suicide in unknown circumstances. The video footage exists to prove that,” de facto foreign minister said.

Irakli Kvaratskhelia, 29, committed suicide after he was detained by the de-facto Abkhazian authorities. The information about was released on March 12 by State Security Service of Georgia. De facto Abkhazian regime named suicide as the reason of the Georgian citizen’s death.

“The tragedy occurred in occupied Gali region is the continuation of a grave and difficult situation which we will not reconcile with,” Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said.

A criminal case will be opened into death case of the Georgian citizen – Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality said.
