Data Akhalaia questioned into Sandro Girgvliani’s case

Data Akhalaia, former head of Georgia’s Constitutional Security Department was questioned into case of Sandro Girgvliani, 28-year-old head of the United Georgian Bank’s Foreign Department killed on January 28, 2006, in Okrokana, outskirts of Tbilisi. Akhalaia agreed to be remotely questioned via Skype as he is not currently in Georgia. The trial resumed at Tbilisi City Court today.

Former Georgian President MIkheil Saakashvili faces charges of misuse of power in relation to Girgvliani case. As reported, he promised the CSU head to pardon those jailed for murdering Sandro Girgvliani and fulfilled the pledge in 2008, halving the term of imprisonment for Geronti Alania, Aleksandre Ghachava, Mikheil Bibiluridze and Avtandisl Aptsiauri.
