Counterfeit money production and distribution cracked in Georgia

The officers of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia exposed four individuals involved in money counterfeiting. As a result of operative-investigative actions, three of them were imprisoned.

“The investigation established that the accused produced counterfeit 50 and 100 GEL banknotes using computer equipment in the Imereti region of Georgia to obtain illegal material benefits. Subsequently, the counterfeiters paid the forged banknotes at the gas stations and retail networks located in Kutaisi. The investigation established that the forgers sold a total of 550 GEL counterfeit banknotes,” the agency said in a statement.

According to the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance, the inquiry is underway. The counterfeiters face seven to ten years in jail.
