The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe criticized Russia for failing to enforce the ruling into Case of Deported Persons during the sitting held on March 3-5 – reads the information of Ministry of Justice.

According to the Ministry, the Committee fully shared the arguments provided by the Georgian government and once again urged Russia for paying the compensation as an unconditional obligation, in line with the 46^th Article of European Convention.

The Committee also satisfied the demand of Georgia to hold repeated debates into the Case of Deported Persons in June of 2020.

In 2006 Russia deported 153 citizens of Georgia as a wave of punitive measures against Georgian migrants and businesses grew, prompting criticism that the government is carrying out an ethnically-motivated campaign of harassment.

The Russian Federation has to comply with the ruling made by the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights on January 31, 2019, and pay 10,000,000 euros to Georgia in respect of non-pecuniary damage suffered by the group of at least 1,500 Georgian nationals, who were the individual victims of the violations.
