Chairs of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada and Croatian Parliament thank Speaker Papuashvili

The chairs of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada and Croatian Parliament, Ruslan Stepanchuk and Gordan Jandrokovic, thanked Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili for his participation in the first parliamentary summit of the Crimea International Platform.

The Georgian parliament’s press service published the letter:

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation in the first Parliamentary Summit of the Crimean International Platform, which took place on October 25, 2022 in Zagreb, Croatia.

I would like to thank you for speaking at the summit and raising your voice together with other parliamentarians both in the plenary hall of the Zagreb National and University Library and in the recorded statements.

We are confident that the messages we have sent have been heard loudly by the world: our unwavering unity in condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine, our strong solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, our unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and our openness to developing parliamentary mechanisms that support Ukraine.

We have also demonstrated our commitment to our shared values of peace, democracy, the rule of law, and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. At the same time, the summit gave us the opportunity to confirm our support for the policy of non-recognition and to again condemn the temporary occupation and illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and other territories of Ukraine.

In the declaration we jointly adopted in Zagreb, it is clearly stated: this represents a direct challenge to international security, which will have serious consequences for the international legal order.

Dear colleague, the Summit in Zagreb gave us the opportunity to once again confirm our readiness to fulfill the goals of the international platform of Crimea and to jointly inaugurate its parliamentary dimension.

We are sure that the mentioned summit will provide us with many opportunities to strengthen our joint efforts to eliminate the negative consequences caused by Russia’s temporary occupation of Crimea and other territories of Ukraine.

It is our firm belief that our efforts will go hand in hand with the liberation of Ukraine.

We look forward to your participation in the next parliamentary summit, which we hope will be held in a peaceful and free Ukraine,” reads the letter.
