“We are part of a real historical process. Caspian gas will be delivered to Europe via Georgia,” Georgian Economy Minister, Natia Turnava, said during an online ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council on Thursday.
Minister noted that following the Shah Deniz phase 2 and the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) projects, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) entered the operational phase.
Turnava stated that today’s meeting was one of the most successful as project participants managed to fulfill their plans despite pandemic-related challenges.
Economy Minister added that Georgia benefits from increased volumes of free gas from Shah Deniz “which will strengthen the country’s energy independence.”
Shah Deniz 2 is the starting point for the Southern Gas Corridor series of pipelines that delivers natural gas from the Caspian Sea direct to European markets from 2020.
Comprised of 3,500km of pipelines, the Southern Gas Corridor includes the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion (SCPX) across Azerbaijan and Georgia, the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) across Turkey, and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) across Greece, Albania, and into Italy.
