Christian Petry from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), a member of the Bundestag delegation paying a visit to Georgia, said he was glad that most of the Georgian population aspires to the EU membership.
Following the meeting held at the Georgian parliament, Christian Petry said that the discussion focused on the 12-point recommendations’ fulfilment.
“I personally would like to see our European family expand in the coming years, and I would like to see those countries that aspire to Europe given such an opportunity,” he said.
The German politician remarked that everybody, be it the population, government, or parliament, has to engage.
“The parliament has to adopt relevant regulations and norms to fulfil those preconditions, and of course, as I told you, all three components are important. It is a very rare case when the success on this path is a merit of only one component,” he said.
The Bundestag’s Committee on European Union Affairs delegation is paying a visit to Georgia on May 2-5.
