Bridget Brink: US supports Prime Minister Kvirikashvili's policy, focused on economic growth
Georgia is a strong partner of the United States, especially in the field of global security, – Bridget Brink, the representative of the Department of State, addressed the participants of the scientific conference dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia which was held at the United States Center for Strategic and International Studies.
She spoke about the Georgia-US strategic partnership and underlined the US strong support for Georgia from the very first days of independence.
“US administrations have had strong bipartisan support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Georgia is a strong partner of the United States, especially in the field of global security. There is a traditional strong relationship between Georgia and the United States and relations with President Trump’s administration have been further strengthened, namely, in terms of partnership on the issues of security and promotion of economic progress,” – Bridget Brink said.
According to the Georgia’s Foreign Ministry, Bridget Brink brought Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili’s visit to the US in the first three months after the new US administration came to power as a good example of the US-Georgia partnership.
She also emphasized the support of Congress for Georgia and talked about financial assistance to Georgia allocated by the 2018 budget law, as well as the restrictions on financing the governments that recognize Russia’s occupied territories.
“Position of the United States is widely known: the regions occupied by Russia – Abkhazia and South Ossetia are integral parts of Georgia and the United States continues to support Georgia’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Bridget Brink said
She positively assessed the government’s efforts in the direction of peaceful resolution of the conflict.
According to her, Georgia has been established as a strong democratic country, oriented to integration into the West. She said that “Georgia is the leader in implementation of democratic and economic reforms. The US supports Prime Minister Kvirikashvili’s policy, focused on economic growth and the government’s four-point plan.”
Bridget Brink also talked about the NATO open door policy.
“The NATO door has been open for all European democracies that share the values of the alliance and contribute to strengthening of common security. Only Georgia could define its future and no country had a right to veto Georgia’s NATO membership”, she said.
