Abkhazians and Ossetians will finally have to decide whether they want to be the Russian Federation’s province or European Georgia — Brian Whitmore, a Senior Fellow & Director of the Russia Program at the Center for European Policy Analysis at American Enterprise Institute after the meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze.

According to Whitmore, the peace initiative of the Georgian government “A Step for Better Future” is an important step since Georgia was making itself more attractive for the population of occupied Tskhinvali and Abkhazia regions.

“The conflict is moving toward resolution and in fact, Abkhazians and Ossetians will have to make the decision. The answer is clear, I believe,” Whitmore said.
