Azerbaijani, Armenian Foreign Ministries' statement on a border clash
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said, “on July 12, the armed forces of Armenia attempted to attack, using artillery, in order to seize positions in the direction of Tovuz region along the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”
The Ministry pointed out that “Armenia bears full responsibility for such provocative actions that serve to aggravate the situation.”
“Armenia is trying to involve third countries in the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict with such provocative actions. Nevertheless, the position of the international community on Armenia’s aggressive policy is quite well known,” the Ministry stressed.
Armenia, for its part, “condemn the ceasefire violations by the Azerbaijani armed forces in the direction of the Tavush region of the Republic of Armenia starting from the afternoon of July 12, accompanied by the attempts to infiltrate into Armenian positions with the use of artillery. As a result of the proportionate actions of the Armenian side, these provocative actions have been effectively suppressed.”
“Recently, the Azerbaijani side, in contradiction to the calls of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to refrain from provocative actions and warmongering rhetoric, to strengthen the ceasefire, constantly resorts to the threats of use of force and military escalation. The political-military leadership of Azerbaijan bears full responsibility for the consequences of the provocative action undertaken amid these threats,” Armenian Foreign Ministry stated.
Three Azerbaijani servicemen were martyred and four others injured in a border clash with Armenian troops on Sunday.
