Azerbaijan holds a snap parliamentary election

Azerbaijan holds a snap parliamentary election on Sunday. 5573 precincts have been opened at 08:00 local time. More than five million voters have the right to vote.

As reported by the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, a record number of candidates are registered in the elections. Their number is 1314.

The elections are held through the majoritarian system. 246 candidacies were nominated by 19 political parties, 1,057 were self-nominated, 11 – by initiative groups.

Voters will choose candidates for 125 seats in the single-chamber parliament, which is elected every five years through voting for individual candidates in electoral districts.

Some 883 international observers and 77,790 local observers are observing the voting process.
