“I’m confident that the strengthening of relations with Georgia is one of the important preconditions for the regional and our country’s security and development,” Armenian President Armen Sarkissian declared at a joint briefing with Salome Zourabichvili.

Armen Sarkissian thanked Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili for the warm welcome.

“Armenian-Georgian relations have a centuries-old history. We attach importance to friendship and cooperation with our neighbour Georgia. Georgian and Armenian people have lived side by side for centuries. Armenians were an active part of the cultural, economic, social and political life of Georgia. Even today, Armenian business has a large investment in Georgia and Georgian businessmen also work in Armenia. I’m confident that the strengthening of relations with Georgia is one of the important preconditions for the regional and our country’s security and development,” the Armenian President stated.

Armen Sarkissian said he and his Georgian counterpart discussed a wide range of issues today.

“We are successfully cooperating in the fields of transport, energy, tourism, agriculture and many other areas. There is also a great potential for cooperation in modern technology, artificial intelligence, high-tech, biotechnology development, cybersecurity, food security. This cooperation is bilateral and multilateral. We can deepen modern business relations between the two countries under the aegis of our presidential institutions. I believe we will work with you to develop business relationships and make our contribution. I would especially like to emphasize the need to deepen cooperation between our countries in the fight against Covid-19. We make every effort to promote this cooperation. Work is underway to raise the current bilateral cooperation level between the Armenian-Georgian intergovernmental commission and the inter-agency. We agree that the presidential institutions can play a particular role in this concern,” Armen Sarkissian said.

The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, arrived in the Georgian capital Tbilisi with an official visit on April 15.
