Anti-corruption Agency detains 5 individuals on the fact of commercial bribery
Officers of Anti-corruption Agency under the State Security Service of Georgia as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities detained international referees – Zaza Machaladze, Irakli Berishvili and David Berishvili, as well as the trainer of basketball club “Sokhumi” Vazha Kvaratskhelia and a co-owner of the same club – Temur Datikashvili on the fact of commercial bribery committed in a group, – Georgia’s State Security Service reports.
Investigation established, that Vazha Kvarastskhelia and Temur Datikashvili with the assistance of international referees fixed desired scores during various matches of Georgian Basketball “Super League” in exchange of sum of money. Vazha Kvaratskhelia and Temur Datikishvili demanded GEL 12 000 for each so-called “fixed” match, the part of sum, GEL equivalent to USD 2000 was intended for referees.
On December 15-16, 2017, three matches under “Super League” were held, which concluded with scores that were envisaged by the plot and Temur Datikashvili, Vazha Kvaratskhelia, Zaza Machaladze, David Berishvili and Irakli Berishvili appropriated the demanded sum overall in amount of GEL 36 000.
Investigation is in progress on the fact of commercial bribery committed in a group, Article 221, part IV, subparagraph “A”, which envisages from 4 to 6 years of imprisonment.
Investigation is carried out by Anti-corruption Agency under the State Security Service of Georgia.
