Andria Jagmaidze - The detained priest was not under the jurisdiction of Georgian Church

The detained priest was not under the jurisdiction of Georgian Church, Head of the Patriarchate’s Public Relations Service, Andria Jagmaidze, said today. As he added, the detained priest does not serve in Georgia.

I cannot come up with this initiative to check the priests on drugs. If the government considers checking priest on drugs, I do not see any problem.

I think clergyman should live a life which does not cause doubts,’ Andria Jagmaidze, stated.

Officers of Zugdidi Police Department detained a priest leading his activities at Atoni Mount (Gudauta district of currently occupied region of Abkhazia) on a charge of illegal buying and keeping of drugs.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the detained monk admits having committed the crime.

A full investigation into the fact is in progress.
