Ambassador Zhou Qian: China Communications Construction Company not on sanctions list

Chinese Ambassador to Georgia Zhou Qian on Thursday said, that China Communications Construction Company Limited (CCCC Ltd), “one of the most famous and strongest construction companies in the world” was listed in the Fortune 500.

The said company submitted the final bid to the Anaklia Deep Sea Port Development Agency and will be officially declared as the winner in the coming days, according to the Economy Ministry which rebuffed the report of the company being on sanctions list.

“It’s one of the most famous and strongest construction companies in the world. So you can see that there’s no sanction towards this group. And I think that if you look back at some disinformation about the CCCC, made by some so-called think tanks, which is financed by Taiwan and the United States, you can see why such disinformation was spread. If you look back to several years ago, the first tender on Anaklia, and what happened then you’ll understand why such disinformation happened again.

I think that’s because it’s not decided yet but we are waiting for, of course, a positive result. We believe this important project will not only be a joint venture but also show how important the synergy between China and Georgia is for the Belt and Road initiative and the Middle Corridor. And it also shows how important the strategic partnership is to support each other. This is not the first important investment project from China to Georgia, but I believe it’ll be a milestone for our cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative and, of course, also to the Middle Corridor,” reads his statement as delivered.
