“Alilo” Christmas Procession to be held in Tbilisi

Alilo Christmas Procession will be held traditionally in Tbilisi today. Participants of the procession gathered at First Republic Square and are expected at Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral.

The procession participants will stop at different places and gather food and candies from people. The gathered food and gifts will be distributed to orphanages, elderly houses and penitentiary facilities.

Hundreds of people usually take part in the march. They will pass Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom Square, Baratashvili Street. At the Patriarchate they will meet with the Patriarch, who will bless the Alilo participants.

The Alilo tradition dates back from the 5-6th centuries. Its celebration was resumed a few years ago.
