AIIB Vice President: UN Climate Change Conference in Azerbaijan presents opportunity for green investments in Georgia

“The UN Climate Change Conference in Azerbaijan presents an opportunity for green investments in Georgia,” Konstantin Limitovskiy, Vice President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), stated in an interview with Azerbaijani media.

Limitovskiy noted that increased attention to the Caucasus region could also foster the development of ecotourism and support environmental initiatives in Georgia.

He mentioned the recently completed Batumi bypass project in Georgia, which has significantly improved connectivity between the Black Sea and Caspian regions.

To date, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank has approved five major projects in Georgia, totalling approximately $400 million, including the Batumi bypass.

“In collaboration with the Georgian government, we are preparing a project to modernize the Tbilisi Metro. This initiative will enhance the efficiency and reliability of the metro system, while also increasing its environmental sustainability,” stated Limitovsky.

The UN Climate Change Conference is scheduled to be held in Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, with up to 50,000 delegates expected to attend, including government representatives from all UN member states.
