30 arrested in Iran over plane crash protests

Around 30 protesters have been arrested in Iran who took to the streets after authorities admitted that a Ukrainian plane that crashed outside Tehran was accidentally hit by an Iranian missile, a spokesman said on Tuesday.

“Around 30 people have been arrested for taking part in illegal gatherings … We have tolerance towards legal rallies,” said Gholamhossein Esmaili, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Shooting down of Ukraine International Airlines flight 752 on January 8, killing all 176 people on board, has led to one of the greatest public challenges to Iran’s clerical rulers since they came to power in the Islamic Revolution of 1979.
