First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, engaged in bilateral meetings with tourism ministers from various countries during the World Tourism Day event in Georgia, organized under the auspices of the United Nations Tourism Organization. Deputy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili also participated in the discussions.
In a meeting with Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, they explored priority areas for cooperation. Despite recent progress, they acknowledged the significant potential for collaboration across multiple economic sectors. Tourism was highlighted, noting a 146% increase in Malaysian visitors to Georgia in 2023, with continued growth of 40% in the first half of 2024. The conversation also covered opportunities in trade, investment, IT, innovation, and maritime transport.
Later, Davitashvili met with Guatemala’s Minister of Tourism, Harris Whitbeck, expressing gratitude for Guatemala’s support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They discussed recent advancements in bilateral relations and Georgia’s interest in enhancing ties with Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting also addressed tourism cooperation, highlighting a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2023 in Punta Cana between the National Tourism Administration of Georgia and the Institute of Tourism of Guatemala.
