Zurab Abashidze – Prime Minister took a difficult step that had to be taken

The head of Georgian government took the difficult step of addressing the Russian authorities that had to be taken, – Zurab Abashidze, Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia told the First Channel.

Special Representative believes that Giorgi Kvirikashvili’s appeal will be followed by a response from Russia.

“This is a statement of a responsible state. First of all, I mean the responsibility toward the country and its people, which puts the interests of country and people above political conjuncture.  In this statement Kvirikashvili stepped not only to solve the problem related to Tatunashvili but also voiced a concrete and reasonable offer on key issues and expressed his readiness to activate the Geneva discussions”, – Abashidze said.

“In addition, the Prime Minister once again made an offer for direct dialogue with Abkhazians and Ossetians. The statement is likely to be followed by a response. It is difficult to predict, but I think that the Prime Minister took a very difficult step that definitely had to be taken, “- Special Representative said.
