Writer Guram Dochanashvili dies at 82

Guram Dochanashvili, Georgian prose writer, a historian by profession, who has been popular for his short stories since the 1970s, died at the age of 82.

New Hospital clinic, where he was placed on April 1 due to worsening his health condition, confirmed his death. The cause of death is yet to be revealed.

Dochanashvili debuted as a writer in 1961. His most popular work is the 1975 novel The First Garment.

Guram Dochanashvili was awarded Literary Award Saba for The Contribution in the Development of Literature (2010), Saint George’s Order for Establishing Moral Values, Patriarchate of Georgia (2013).

Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Archil Talakvadze expressed sorrow over Guram Dochanashvili’s death.

“It is very unfortunate that a great writer and an outstanding person, Guram Dochanashvili, pride of everyone, passed away,” Talakvadze said. He added that Dochanashvili’s work was immortal and inspired generations.
