WHO Regional Director: Georgia to have excellent response to COVID-19

Georgian Health Ministry’s response to COVID-19 is excellent, Hans Henri Kluge said in Tbilisi on Friday.

The Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) is paying his official five-day visit to Georgia.

According to Kluge, the first goal of the WHO is to work on COVID-19 related issues together with the governmental representatives and medical personnel. The second objective is to cooperate on the health reform. The third is to strengthen the work of the WHO office in Georgia.

Kluge welcomed the efforts of Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze to keep on developing accessibility to healthcare. He also hailed the active involvement of scientists and the public in coping with the virus.

Kluge said he visited the Covid Centers, government-assigned quarantine facilities that provide good service to the infected patients.

“We see the light at the end of the tunnel because COVID vaccines are already created. Much time is left before we get the final results. Therefore, compliance with the set standards and regulations is essential in this transition period both for Europe and Georgia,” Hans Henri Kluge claimed.

Kluge said that Georgia showed a positive tendency in observing the regulations and underlined that Georgia was a priority country for him and “this is bilaterally constructive and benefiting.” “We are providing Georgia with experience and we are learning from Georgia,” Kluge noted.

The WHO Regional Director for Europe arrived in Georgia with a 5-day visit earlier today. The WHO delegation includes Health Programs Head of the Regional Office for Europe Nino Berdzuli, WHO Emergency Response, and Assistance Unit Project Management Officer Natalia Dimova-Chertoyanova and Head of WHO Country Office Silviu Domente.
