White House directed block of Armenian genocide resolution

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham blocked a resolution that would have formally recognized Turkey’s genocide of the Armenian people.

As foreign media reports, as Graham was leaving the Oval Office, senior White House staff asked him to return to the Senate and block the Armenian genocide resolution — a measure that would have infuriated Erdogan.

The US House of Representatives has voted in favour of recognising the mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks during World War One as a genocide.

The resolution passed by a vote of 405 to 11.
